Bout of Books 18 | Final Update

The Bout of Books 18 readathon has ended. As you might have guessed, I am not too happy with the progress I made throughout the week. Now, I only finished half of the goals I set out for myself. I read one book and had fun, but that was it. I wish I’d have had more time on my hands. However, I’ll certainly be participating in the next Bout of Books as well!

Number of pages I’ve read today: 103

Total number of pages I’ve read: 518

Today’s Books: The Madman’s Tale (3h – 103 pages)

All the books I finished: 1

Bout of Books 18 | Update #4, #5 and #6

Something always gets in the way. I’ve had even less time than I thought I would have for day 4, 5 and 6 of this readathon. With this post, I am just shortly going to share with you how much I’ve collectively read throughout these three days. And let me tell you, it’s not even that much. Ugh.

Number of pages I’ve read: 96

Total number of pages I’ve read: 415

Books:  Year Of No Clutter (30% – 96 pages)

The Reading Habits Tag

I was tagged by the lovely Gretchen @ ChicNerdReads to do this tag (in June oops). Thanks a lot! If you don’t know Gretchen yet, be sure to check out her blog. You can find her Reading Habits Tag here.

Do you have a certain place at home for reading? I will read wherever I feel like reading. Can be my bed, the kitchen table, the couch in the living room. Simply anywhere.

Bookmark or random piece of paper? To be honest, I own several different cute and beautiful bookmarks. They are part of an enjoyable read for me.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter / a certain amount of pages? I’m able to stop whenever I am not interested in reading anymore, which is not necessarily after a chapter or a certain amount of pages.

Do you eat of drink while reading? Usually I don’t, but once in a while I will have some tea.

Multitasking: Music of TV while reading? Nah, not at all.

One book at a time or several at once? I am always reading at least around 4 books at the same time, because some books just don’t keep my attention for long enough.

Reading at home or everywhere? I love to be able to read everywhere! I take my Kindle almost anywhere. Due to being in my car and driving for hours and hours on end once in a while, I have discovered my love for audiobooks. As we all know, there are too many books and too little time. Therefore only reading at home is not an option for me!

Reading out loud or silently in your head? Always silently in my head.

Do you read ahead or even skip pages? I only did that once and I missed such an important part. I haven’t done it since. Sometimes I would read the last sentence of a book, simply out of curiosity.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new? Keeping it like new, definitely. I am afraid of breaking the spine while reading pretty books, so for this reason I am currently enjoying e-books and audiobooks very much!

Do you write in your books? I wish I had the guts to do so! No, however.

Feel free to do this tag if you are interested!

Bout of Books 18 | Update #3

This is not going as well as I would like it to. I am reading less every day, so my goal for day 4 is to actually make a lot of progress. Additionally, I realized that I am just not good at reading books I chose beforehand. Therefore the TBR for Bout of Books was pretty much useless, because I am reading completely different books. So, here is an update on the books I am actually planing on reading throughout the next few days: 1Q84, Year Of No Clutter and Head First C. After making more progress with those I will choose other books to read. Well, let’s have a look at my progress today.

Number of pages I’ve read today: 49

Total number of pages I’ve read: 319

Today’s Books:  1Q84 (1h – 33 pages), Year Of No Clutter (5% – 16 pages)

Books I finished today: –

All the books I finished: 1

Bout of Books 18 | Update #2

Day 2 has come to an end, so it’s time to share my progress.  I feel like I am not really fast enough for my liking. Although I managed to get a bit done, it’s not nearly enough to reach all my goals until the end of the week. 270 pages after two days just doesn’t seem enough.

Number of pages I’ve read today: 72

Total number of pages I’ve read: 270

Today’s Books:  1Q84 (2h – 50 pages), Year Of No Clutter (7% – 22 pages)

Difficult Women

Difficult Women

Difficult Women | 272 pages | Expected Publication: 3rd of January | Short Stories, Fiction, Feminism Goodreads | Amazon

In exchange for an honest review I received this eARC from the publisher on NetGalley. Thank you very much!

The first short story was chosen very well. It sets the atmosphere as somewhat dark and twisted, sad and difficult. Because of this interesting first story I was unable to put the book down at this point.

Gay’s writing is highly enjoyable and somewhat different from most authors I read. At least this is the feeling it conveys. The wording is simple, but also effective and strong.

Difficult Women, the short story that gave Gay’s book its name, is in contrast to the stories leading to it written differently and has a different vibe to it. In its prominent state, it connected to the other stories very well. All of the stories were unique and written distinctly.

The diversity in these short stories was refreshing and gave this book a more profound vibe.

Two or three of the short stories were not interesting to me at all. I wanted to skip these, but didn’t.  Awaiting a turn in events, which did happen at some point, saved them somehow.

Favorite Quotes

He used to think his wealth was a burden but quickly realized what he could get away with.

La Negra Blanca

[…] her services were in high demand because her clients liked having an English-speaking housekeeper as much as it made them uncomfortable to see a white woman doing the work of la gente.

Florida, 1217 Ridgewood RD Unit 23

Additionally, all of Difficult Woman, What a Crazy Woman Thinks About While Walking Down the Street.

Short stories about many different women, whom I would have liked to read more about. Nearly all of them kept my undivided attention, with most of them leaving me heartbroken at least in some way. I would recommend to anyone not being bothered with subtly being called out for sexist and racist behavior and explicit sex scenes. However – TW: rape, abuse/violence.

2017 | Goals

Also known as the year in which I will finally have wiped out my to-be-read pile completely (hopefully) and then, only then, start adding lots of new books!

At least that is the plan for now. With this post I want to share all of my reading goals for the new year!

1 Finish all of the books I own at this point or get rid of them entirely if I don’t wanna read them at all anymore.

2 Read more than I did in 2016.

3 Don’t buy any books until I have read all of the ones that I already own.

4 Read lots of diverse and interesting books.

5 Register for a library card, once I have figured out all of my physical TBR pile.

Write lots of posts and interact on here with you lovely people!

Reading Challenges

Goodreads Reading Challenge 2017

Once again I will set a goal on Goodreads on how many books I wanna read in 2017. At the moment I am thinking of setting a goal as low as 30 books and add 10 books to that goal, if I have reached 30 books. Reaching 40 read books, I will change it to 50 and so on. Although I wish I was able to read as many books as many of you do (read: at least 100+), that’s rather impossible for me I fear.

Concerning other reading challenges, I am not yet interested in any, but I will post an update if something changes!
