First Lines Friday #2 | #FirstLinesFridays

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature hosted by Wandering Words: “What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?” The graphic above is also taken from Wandering Words.

The Rules

  1. Pick a book off your shelf and open the first page
  2. Write down the first few lines, without giving away anything else about the book yet
  3. Reveal the book!

The First Few Lines

Today when I awoke from a nap the faceless man was there before me. He was seated on the chair across from the sofa I’d been sleeping on, staring straight at me with a pair of imaginary eyes in a face that wasn’t.
The man was tall, and he was dressed the same as when I had seen him last. His face-that-wasn’t-a-face was half hidden by a wide-brimmed black hat, and he had on a long, equally dark coat.

The Reveal

Reveal the book!
