The Reading Habits Tag

I was tagged by the lovely Gretchen @ ChicNerdReads to do this tag (in June oops). Thanks a lot! If you don’t know Gretchen yet, be sure to check out her blog. You can find her Reading Habits Tag here.

Do you have a certain place at home for reading? I will read wherever I feel like reading. Can be my bed, the kitchen table, the couch in the living room. Simply anywhere.

Bookmark or random piece of paper? To be honest, I own several different cute and beautiful bookmarks. They are part of an enjoyable read for me.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter / a certain amount of pages? I’m able to stop whenever I am not interested in reading anymore, which is not necessarily after a chapter or a certain amount of pages.

Do you eat of drink while reading? Usually I don’t, but once in a while I will have some tea.

Multitasking: Music of TV while reading? Nah, not at all.

One book at a time or several at once? I am always reading at least around 4 books at the same time, because some books just don’t keep my attention for long enough.

Reading at home or everywhere? I love to be able to read everywhere! I take my Kindle almost anywhere. Due to being in my car and driving for hours and hours on end once in a while, I have discovered my love for audiobooks. As we all know, there are too many books and too little time. Therefore only reading at home is not an option for me!

Reading out loud or silently in your head? Always silently in my head.

Do you read ahead or even skip pages? I only did that once and I missed such an important part. I haven’t done it since. Sometimes I would read the last sentence of a book, simply out of curiosity.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new? Keeping it like new, definitely. I am afraid of breaking the spine while reading pretty books, so for this reason I am currently enjoying e-books and audiobooks very much!

Do you write in your books? I wish I had the guts to do so! No, however.

Feel free to do this tag if you are interested!

I Messed Up Tag

Oh well, I was already tagged by three people, so it must finally be time to do this tag! Thanks to Joey @ Thoughts And Afterthoughts, Lara @ The Heathen and Tammy @ A Word About Books. Go check out their awesome blogs! Their versions of this tag: Joey, Lara and Tammy. To be honest, I don’t really want to tag anyone for this one once again, since it was quite hard for me to come up with questions and I did not particularly enjoy it. If you feel like this is the tag for you, consider yourself tagged! Let’s get into this!

A Character’s Appearance You Misread or Imagined Differently

Just like Joey sad, characters are also faceless voids to me. I totally get that. The only time they are not is when there is a movie to a book. If I have watched the trailer or know the actors and actresses that will portray certain characters, they will automatically be that character forever and ever. Now, for instance, Shailene Woodley will always be Hazel from The Fault in Our Stars, Josh Hutcherson will always be Steve from Cirque du Freak, Carey Mulligan will always be Kathy from Never Let Me Go as well as Daisy from The Great Gatsby. Well, you get what I am trying to say.

A Character Name You’ve Been Pronouncing Incorrectly

Such hard questions! I think I have had trouble with Tsukuru Tazaki from Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage and Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov from Crime and Punishment, other than that I am fine. Poor Tsatzuki and Raskalniko.

An Overused Trope That Is Your Guilty Pleasure

Love triangles and wealthy leads.

A Cliched Character Type You Enjoy Viewing On Screen Than Reading About

There isn’t one.

A Word/Phrase You Learned Because of Its Use In A Book

I certainly did, but I cannot remember any right now.

Have You Ever Not Read or Completed a Required Reading Book For School

I was a student as good as gold, so of course I haven’t done that! gasps

Have You Ever (Or Wanted To) Skipped A Chapter From the POV of a Character You Weren’t Interested In

No, that’s not something I do. Not because of an uninteresting POV anyway. I once, when I was much younger skipped one chapter of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince when I was reading it for the first time. You know, the chapter where the two are in the cave and a lot of shit goes down. I was so confused because I had skipped that part so eventually I had to go back and read it.

Have You Ever Cancelled Social Plans To Read A Book

I have and I would do it again. Books > Social Events and (most) people

The Goodreads Book Tag

Once again, I am back with another lovely tag! I saw this tag done (oops nearly three months ago it seems) by Monique @ That Wild Soul and immediately decided to give it a go sometime as well! I’ve started using Goodreads in April 2012 and I’ve been loving it since. I am not going to tag anyone, but feel free to steal this tag from me at any time, like I did. If you want to (and you should definitely do so), check out Monique’s version of this tag here. To this tag, there aren’t really any rules except for answering the questions. Let’s get started!

What was the last book you marked as ‘read’?

Never Never: Part One of Three by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher, which was a 4 out of 5 stars.

What are you currently reading?

Juliet, Naked, Never Never: Part Two and A Clash of Kings.

What was the last book you marked as to-read?

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

What book do you plan to read next?

I don’t quite know, either Never Never: Part Three, Fangirl or Pretty Girls.

Do you use the star rating system?

I do! I have rated 372 books with an average of 3.60. As most of us, I think that .5s wouldn’t be too bad, but most of the time it works fine for me without it.

Are you doing a 2016 Reading Challenge?

At the start of this year, I started off with 100 books as a goal. I soon realized that this wasn’t possible to do for me at the moment, so I changed it to 52, which makes a book a week. Sounds doable, right? There are only 12 more books missing to finishing this. Also, how can bloggers read 150 books a year? How?? Amazing.

Screenshot from 2016-09-01 15-02-07.png

Do you have a wishlist?

Not really, whatever is on my to-read, I will buy eventually.

What book do you plan to buy next?

I check Amazon quite regularly for good Kindle deals, so whatever comes up. I am not really planing on buying anything too soonish, since I have bought around 9 e-books only last week.

Do you have any favourite quotes? Share a few!

Apparently there are 16 quotes that I liked on my profile. I adore all of them, now that I have read through them all once again, you can check them out here. Let me share with you my top 3!

“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.” – Eric Roth

“I love sleep. My life has the tendency to fall apart when I’m awake, you know?”  -Ernest Hemingway

“Your past is just a story. And once you realize this it has no power over you.” – Chuck Palahniuk

Who are your favourite authors?

There are more favourite authors, but apparently I have only added these on Goodreads:

Haruki Murakami
Inio Asano
George R.R. Martin

Have you joined any groups?

Top 5 Wednesday
Grazer bookworms
Perustopia Book Club
Emma’s Book Club – Our Shared Shelf

Thanks for reading and have a nice day!

This Or That Book Tag

For this one, I was tagged by two beautiful people. The first one to do so was Lara @ The Heathen and the second one Shruti @ This is Lit. Thanks a lot! I adore both of them, so go check out their blogs!

The Rules

Mention the creator of the tag (Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks)
Thank the blogger who tagged you! –Thanks!
Tag other people to do the tag and spread the love!

The Questions

It seems I am not really a person for a this or a that, I am mostly a mix of in betweens.

Reading on the couch or reading on the bed?

Mostly in my bed, sometimes on a very comfy couch/chair thingy and on a few occasions wherever I am, to get lots of reading done, e.g. in the gym, in a traffic jam, while I am waiting for an appointment, while going by bus, tram or train, etc.

Main character: Male or Female?

I can relate to female characters better, but I do have a few male favorites. For the latest around 28 books that I read I figured I’d take a look at what exactly I read and who the main characters were. For 12 it was male, for 12, too, it was female and for 4 it was a mix of both. I will go with female though.

Sweet or salty snacks while reading?

No snacks at all during reading. If I am stressed about reading I will be reading while I am having dinner or lunch, but that doesn’t really count as snacking.

Trilogies or quartets?

I do not mind, if I love the books I will read how many there are. Also, I think I have read more trilogies than quartets.

First Person or third person POV?

I am used to a first person point of view, but I can also enjoy a third person point of view in many books.

Night or morning reader?

Mostly at night and if it’s not at night, during the whole day. I don’t think I particularly read in the morning.

Libraries or bookstores?

I love a good library. There is a local one that is very cheap and offers a few gems. When I was still at school I used to borrow lots of books from our school’s library, even more than I could carry sometimes.

Books that make you laugh or books that make you cry?

I think I’ve cried because of books way more often than they actually made me laugh. Books even made me cringe more often than they made me laugh. So I will go with the second option, books that make you cry.

Black or white book covers?

White covers, definitely. They are more classy and minimalist, in my opinion. Also, colors on white covers seem way brighter and more beautiful.

Character driven or plot driven stories?

Plot driven stories are more enjoyable for me personally, but I get that interesting characters can be an essential point of a story, too.

The Harry Potter Book Tag + Pottermore

The Harry Potter Book Tag + Pottermore

In the middle of June I saw this tag done by Ali @ I Wuv Books and I knew that I wanted to do it too! She basically said that anyone who wants to do it, should consider themselves tagged, so here I am! You can find her post here.

The awesome Trang & Lashaan created this tag. Make sure to check out their blog at Bookidote. Additionally, the pretty graphics that are being used as the headings for each section are also from their blog, as they kindly let everyone use them for this tag!

The only rule that they set up is that the answers are not allowed to be the actual Harry Potter books themselves! Sadly enough.

A Book In Which You Found The Theme Interesting, But You’d Like To Rewrite It

Landline by Rainbow Rowell

The idea of a way to communicate with your past or someone in it seemed very intriguing to me to say the least. However, the way it was carried out was not very satisfying. Aye, mild spoilers ahead. I don’t feel like she actually had the chance to change something, she was just mostly confused about what was happening.

The First Book In A Series That Got You Hooked

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

Even before I started to watch A Game of Thrones, I read the first book in the series. For the German version, the original book is split up and made into two books, so that’s the first one I read. I loved the writing and the world and the characters, I just knew I would love it deeply forever. I am so looking forward to actually getting to read the other books in the series. Currently, I am stuck with the first third of A Clash of Kings, sadly enough.

A Book You Wish You Could Have Right Now

There is none, I think. Sorry? There are a few that I wish I could start right now, but that’s a problem I have at the moment. I’ve started way too many books at the same time and now I cannot get to reading any with too much success. I am looking forward to finishing all the books that I set to currently reading, so I can finally start the third book in the Gossip Girl series.

A Killer Book. Both Senses. Take It As You Like

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

So, this killed it in both senses. It took me so long to read and granted, it is such a long book to read. It just drained me of all my spirits at some points, but in the end it killed it. I enjoyed it. I don’t even know, what else to say. Russian authors, huh?

A Book That You Found Really Confusing

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan

After the first few chapters I realized that it wasn’t the story that was acting up to confuse me, but actually a very interesting detail that I had somehow missed. Does the following count as some sort of spoiler? I mean, apparently it says so on the back of the book itself. I totally thought the chapters were written in the same point of view, by only one character. Oh boy, how wrong I was! So I totally mixed up both Wills for quite a while.

Your Spirit Animal Book

Cupid and Psyche by Apuleius

I’ve nearly always had a thing for Mythology. And romance. So this, in all its beauty, was the perfect read to fill my heart with love and many other feelings.

A Dark Twisted Book

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Maybe this would have fit better for the Killer Book category. All the things we get to know about the Creature and its feelings, its way of thinking made it so dark, as well as the actions the monster took to get back at Frankenstein.

A Book That Surprised You In A Great Way, Reveals To Be More Than It Is

The DUFF by Kody Keplinger

I didn’t think much about it before starting to read this book. All I know was that it was wildly popular everywhere. Once I had started The Duff, I read it within two sittings. It surprised me in such a positive way and since then it’s become one of my favourite books.

Just like Ali, I am not going to tag anyone. If you want to do this tag, just do it and have fun with it!

As an additional part to this tag, I wanted to share something else with you. Only a few days ago did I register at Pottermore once again and got sorted into my Hogwarts House and my Ilvermorny House. I had a wand choose me, too.

I hope you enjoyed this tag! Which houses did you get sorted into?

Greek Mythology Tag

Greek Mythology Tag

Since the first time I have seen one of these posts I wanted to do one for myself. Now the lovely Daniela @ Daniela’s Bookshelf has tagged me to do this! Thank you, Daniela!

If you click on the pictures of the books, you will be redirected to their page on Goodreads. Let’s go!

Favorite book (choose your own category!)8460324

As the first book to start off this tag I am going to mention The Great Gatsby. It would fit in the category of Classics, but also Fiction. I adored everything about it. The characters, the settings, the symbolic meaning. I’ve read it for the first time around three years ago, but it has always remained my all-time favourite. So maybe it’s time for a re-read. If anyone wants to read it along with me, leave me a comment!
